You want me or someone else to follow you on Twitter, here is a great list of 10 reasons why you won’t be followed. Look and act like a professional, don’t waste my time with the same post 1000 times, don’t always try to sell me something, tell me more than just where you are every minute, and we all can’t be experts, lol. Seriously, I just want to know a little something about you, and get to know more about you through your posts.<\/p>\n

10 Reasons Why You Won’t Get Followed on Twitter<\/strong><\/p>\n

1- You have no avatar<\/strong><\/p>\n

As pretty as the Twitter egg may be, it\u2019s not what\u2019s gonna\u2019 attract me to you. I don\u2019t care if it\u2019s a snapshot of you on your worst day, or one of your favorite cartoon character or even if it\u2019s your blog or company logo \u2013 I simply care that you have one. Not much else to say here since this should go without saying.<\/p>\n

Bottom line<\/em><\/strong> –\u00a0come out, come out, wherever you are!<\/p>\n

2- Your\u00a0profile says zilch <\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong>If I don\u2019t know what you or your blog\/brand\/company are about, then what incentive do I have for connecting with you<\/a>? It doesn\u2019t take more than a minute or two to fill this field out. It\u2019s not like you\u2019re required to write a 500 word essay. How hard can it be to talk about yourself or your company in one sentence? Most people can\u2019t shut up when they start talking about themselves! Heck, I can talk about myself for pages!<\/p>\n

Bottom line<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 say anything, but say something!<\/p>\n

3- You follow 41,734 people but only 86 follow you<\/strong><\/p>\n

I don\u2019t mean to burst your bubble, but how interesting can you and your tweets possibly be if only 0.0001% (too lazy to calculate the actual percentage) of your connections follow you back? And that\u2019s if they\u2019re following you back.<\/p>\n

Bottom line<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 work on the ratio!<\/p>\n

4- You follow 58 people but 1 gazillion follow you<\/strong><\/p>\n

First off, I\u2019m flattered and super excited that you\u2019d like to include me in your elite and worthy list of people to follow. That\u2019s where my exception comes in. If you\u2019re a news service or someone like @mashable<\/a>, @techcrunch<\/a>, @tamar<\/a>, @ViperChill<\/a>, @chrisbrogan<\/a>, @ProBlogger<\/a>, @FamousBloggers<\/a>, @ladygaga<\/a>, @aplusk<\/a>, @Oprah<\/a>, @TheEllenShow<\/a>\u2026and not someone who\u2019s just looking to grow their list and then later unfollow, then hell yes \u2013 I\u2019ll follow you (if I don\u2019t already)! I don\u2019t quite see what Lady Gaga and I have in common and why she\u2019d want to follow me but it would rock if she did! But Ellen on the other hand\u2026I think she could relate to my sense of humor \":D\" .<\/p>\n

Bottom line<\/em><\/strong> –\u00a0you\u2019re too cool for Tweetschool!
\n <\/strong><\/p>\n

5- You haven\u2019t tweeted since the first \u201cTwilight\u201d movie came out<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019m not the biggest vampire flick fan, but it seems that many people are these days.\u00a0I\u2019d like to think that 4 or 5 weeks of a Twitter<\/a> free life is somewhat acceptable \u2013 but not more! It may just be that you\u2019re on vacation<\/a> and that\u2019s fine \u2013 I took a pretty long one myself this summer. There\u2019s always a valid reason for taking a break. But if I visit your page and I see spiders crawling through webs or I see that your last tweet is as old as Edward Cullen (the 104 year old hottie vamp from\u00a0Twilight), then I\u2019m not interested in engaging with you since it seems you\u2019re not interesting in engaging with anyone.<\/p>\n

Bottom line<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 come out of your coffin!<\/p>\n

6- Your tweets are in a foreign language that I don\u2019t understand<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019m lucky to have followers from all around the world. But they tweet in 1 of the 4 earthly languages that I speak. Actually, 99.99% of them Tweet in English<\/a> as do I \u2013 I just wanted to toot my own linguistic horn by telling you that I\u2019m fluent in 4! Fellow Peeps of the Twittersphere \u2013 I don\u2019t speak Hindu, Farsi or Chinese. I also don\u2019t speak Swedish or German, so you\u2019ll have to please forgive my first name for misleading you to think that I may.<\/p>\n

Bottom line<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 no English, no follow!<\/p>\n

7-You\u2019re a self-centered twitterer that doesn\u2019t RT or @ reply<\/strong><\/p>\n

This may be hard for you to swallow, but the Twittersphere does not revolve around you! The whole point of Twitter<\/a> is to share and engage and not simply self promote. So if that\u2019s all you\u2019re interested in doing, then I\u2019m not interested in you. If I look at your stream and you haven\u2019t RT\u2019d or @ replied to anyone in 3 pages, then why on earth do I want to follow you if you don\u2019t seem to be engaging or interested in others? There are loads of fascinating, insightful, talented, funny\u2026people out there with awesome stuff to share. Help them spread their word because they may just reciprocate your gesture. If you think about it, this is pretty good relationship advice as well \":)\" !<\/p>\n

B<\/em><\/strong>ottom line<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 don\u2019t act like a spoiled little\u00a0brat\u00a0who doesn\u2019t want to share his toys because if you do, none of the other kids are gonna\u2019 want to play with you.<\/p>\n

8- You\u2019re all about where you are<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019ll be honest here. I don\u2019t give a hoot about where you\u2019re currently located and what town you\u2019re the Mayor of. I\u2019m all for people using Foursquare and other location based services \u2013 they\u2019re great \u2013 but if that\u2019s all you\u2019re willing to tweet<\/a> then Twitter off! Having a few of these in your stream is totally cool but don\u2019t over do it.<\/p>\n

Bottom line<\/em><\/strong> –\u00a0you\u2019re nowhere but here to me!<\/p>\n

9- Your profile rocks but we just don\u2019t click<\/strong> –\u00a0Sometimes it just happens. You may have an awesome profile and seem like an A+ guy or girl, but it may just be that I\u2019m not interested in the same things as you are.<\/p>\n

Bottom line<\/em><\/strong> –\u00a0please don\u2019t take it personally, but\u00a0we just weren\u2019t meant to be!<\/p>\n

10- You are a self-proclaimed \u201cguru\u201d, \u201cmaster\u201d\u2026 of Social Media or other<\/strong><\/p>\n

I love Social Media too, but I\u2019m simply an enthusiast and avid learner! I\u2019m not a guru, master or expert of any kind. Having these \u2018greater than God\u2019 type adjectives on your profile don\u2019t tell me much about you \u2013 because after all, in this day and age, who doesn\u2019t like Social Media? The folks who actually have a proven track record in that field don\u2019t refer to themselves in these ways.<\/p>\n

Bottom line<\/em><\/strong> –\u00a0guru\u2019s are so pass\u00e9!<\/p>\n
