No real requirements, anyone who has a blog or website that provides marketing services and information for musicians is welcome to submit.
This week we profile Christopher Buttner. Christopher has contributed a couple of the most read posts on Michael Brandvold Marketing discussing DIY Publicity for Bands.
1. What is your name and email address?
Christopher Buttner, chris@prthatrocks.com
2. What is your website url and name?
http://www.prthatrocks.com – PRThatRocks.com
3. What is your Twitter username?
@prthatrocks
4. Give us a one sentence pitch for what you do and why we need to visit your site?
Because our mantra is “It’s Not Art Until It’s Sold,” PRThatRocks.com specializes in navigating our clients through the fast-paced world of music, entertainment and technology convergence, delivering big agency results at a fraction of big agency fees.
5. One word of advice you would give a band that you just saw in a club?
Practice.
6. Your first concert? Who, Where and When?
Kiss, Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, NY, February 21, 1977 – Sammy Hagar opened.
7. Your first album?
As a child, I wore out the soundtrack to “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” but my Rock n’ Roll spiritual awakening was “Meet The Beatles. ”
8. Do you prefer CD, Vinyl or Digital and why?
Even though I am a snob for fidelity, and my favorite 400 discs are still in my home stereo carousel player, which is frequently on when I am home, I have to prioritize Digital over CD and Vinyl, the latter of which was completely purged from my life in late 80’s. Therefore, Digital is my #1, because the iPod provides the ability to quickly create massive playlists and the iPhone is the perfect tool for discovering new, or never heard before, music through Pandora on Slacker Radio.
9. Are you or were you ever in a band?
Many – Heavy Metal, Hard and Progressive Rock, Power Pop. Bassist, synthesizers, and background vocals, all badly. Started on guitar at 10-years old. If you ever heard me play guitar, you’d understand why I gravitated to the bass. If you ever heard me play bass, you’d understand why I’m a publicist.
10. If you could be a rock star, who would you be?
A unique and flamboyant bass-playing, multi-instrumentalist and singing personality hybrid of my heroes; Geddy Lee, Tom Petersson, John Entwhistle, Gene Simmons, Steve Harris, John Myung, Chris Squire, Paul McCartney, and Sting.
