I came across this on Facebook and thought it would be something worth sharing. Jay Piecha of Suite J created this nice Photoshop template for your Facebook page that you can download for free and use to create Cover images, Profile images and App icons.

Cool template. Too bad Facebook doesn’t allow profile pics in that size. You have to make it bigger, and Facebook scales it down automatically. This makes it harder to get an exact fit if you’re planning for the profile pic to mesh perfectly with the timeline pic.
The template the exact size of your timeline area (including profile image) so you can design around what it will look like as the finished product.
160×160 is the size Facebook will “scale it down to automatically” and so you will want to create a version of it at 180×180 to upload as profile pic when you add it to Facebook.
It’s not difficult to get an exact fit. Just replicate the profile square image exactly at 180×180 as the upload. It will match perfectly when scaled to 160×160. I’ve done it several times successfully.
This might be a dumb question, but when you finish getting the PSD looking the way you want, how do you export just the slices or small images to use on facebook? Thanks
You can just crop the template down to the cover image area.
