Great short & sweet podcast, guys! You hit the nail on the head here – know your fans and give them what they want. What a concept, right? (insert forehead slap here) And yet, even some of the biggest acts like U2 can miss this important point. They came back around after the dismal Pop but it sure took a while.
Also: great point about talking up fans at shows. So very important. Not only do the bands learn stuff, but it’s very cool for the fans as well.
I follow Michael on Twitter for good marketing tips, and here’s a tale you might appreciate: the band Garbage did some crowdsourcing for artwork through their website and it even landed national press in USA Today. I’d love to know your thoughts on this — or what they might have done even better over at my blog, if you’d care to share:

Thanks, and keep the good advice coming!
Thanks so much! I think anything a band does that includes the fans is a win. Fans want to be involved and love the chance to be recognized.
