Today I’m kicking off a new series of video interviews with Erinn Knight the manager of The Silver Comet who just returned from the 2012 Vans Warped Tour. The series of interview will be all about the lessons and experiences they learned preparing for the tour and while on the road. I know there will be some great information for young bands about DIY survival. This is going to be really interesting. This is not a band with a TON of money, a BIG record deal… this is a band of talented kids who got a huge break and had to figure out how to survive and support themselves on the road in order to pursue their dream. This band could be any young band out there.
In this first interview Erinn gives us some history of the band and talks about the showcase for Kevin Lyman, how they prepared for the showcase and how everything changed literally overnight.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a better interview! Both in terms of what’s relevant to me, and in terms of packing the information in a solid chunk. Thank you, and I can’t wait for the next one!
Erinn, you’re a badass! Best of luck to you and the Silver Comet!
Tony, thank you so much. I really appreciate that feedback, it helps greatly to know if I am moving in the right direction. My hope was to deliver something that every aspiring musician could learn from. This is not for those who have made it or done it. This is for those hoping to make it.
Erinn’s advice to bands to “Play every show like it’s your next big break because you never know who could be in the audience” and for managers to “be prepared for anything, make sure you’re in it and committed…..be willing to sacrifice just as much as they are, if not more” is timeless. Great band, may they appreciate what they have in Erinn!
