Top Music AppsHere is another item from Bob Lefsetz’s post What I Want for Christmas.

29. A Great Music App

That is customizable, that allows me to track any and all of my favorite artists.

I agree completely! As I have gotten more involved in the app world through Jordan Rudess and his awesome app Morphwiz I have come to realize nobody has released a great music app for fans. I have downloaded a number of music apps and most are nothing more than simple extensions of a band’s website; tour dates, photo sharing, buy music, Twitter posts, and news. Usually what happens is once the tour is done I delete the app as the app quickly dies, or I quickly loose interest as I get more engagement through Facebook.

I have not found the ideal app to track all my favorite artists. I would love to see something that:

  • alerts me to shows
  • ticket onsales
  • new releases
  • tv appearances
  • radio interviews
  • newspaper and magazine appearances
  • new merchandise
  • accurate set lists
  • details on shows; such as set times, fan gatherings, ability to buy show recordings
  • something that brings a new level on interaction at a concert
  • helps locate fans nearby

I want something I don’t have to configure, it just looks at all the artists in my iPod app and automatically sets up the alerts. I also want something that is just as useful when the artist is not touring as when they are.

What else would you want in your ideal music app?
