Author David Meerman Scott made a honest and realistic quote, “if you want 20,000 fans you must do 2000 different things that each generate 10 fans.” This was my favorite quote from 2010 and I am going to take this on as a challenge for 2011 for an ambitious project to give you 2000 different things you can do to generate 20,000 fans.
Some of these items will apply better for larger acts, some items will work for any act. Some may work for you, some may not… not yet. Some these can be done with little effort, some will take some web development, some might even require some significant development. Some of these have successfully worked for me over the years. The point is to create a list of items that would cover a wide range of acts and abilities.
The end result of all this will hopefully be more Facebook likes, Twitter followers, email list subscriptions, more sales and more traffic to your website… more fans!

51. Create Facebook Timeline Covers
Create a few Facebook Timeline Cover images for your fans to use as their Timeline Cover photo. The images should be 850 pixels X 315 pixels. You can put your logo, band photo and album cover in image. Also make sure to add your website url, Twitter ID and Facebook Page so you can be found. Maybe add a message about when your release is coming out or tour starts. Make up 3-4 different ones to give your fans a choice. Try using them as a fan gate, offer them to your fans after they click LIKE.
Here is a example of how artist Margaret Durante is offering her fans Timeline covers.
I love the idea of timeline covers. Had been working on some before I read this post. I just can’t wrap my mind around how she had the timeline app like thing set up on her page. Any ideas on that? Always appreciate your posts!

Jay, I don’t know how she did it. But I would attempt creating a html page that you insert into a iFrame. User clicks on a image in the tab and it is a link to a zip file to download.
Actually that’s exactly it Michael! I working on it right now. I found a couple of template sites for iframes your readers might be interested in too. Here’s a link to one – http://www.facebook-iframe-templates.com/facebook-iframe-templates.php
You’d obviously have to trick them out quite a bit but it’s a good starting place it seems.
Thanks
Jay
I use a Facebook app called Static html iFrame tabs. So easy to create your own tabs
Nice thanks I will check it out!
