Listening to your discussion about Turntable and Radical – for our new album, The Taker, we wanted to do an online Release Party on Turntable.fm, where we would play the album and be able to get direct feedback from our fans around the country.
The label that we work with Plague Music (http://www.plaguemusic.com ) has a room that a label person is usually in playing tunes from the bands on the label as well as the same kind of music.
However, what we came up against, is the DRM – Due to Copyright laws, you can’t play more than 3 songs from the same band every hour. They have a script which automatically cuts off the 4th song.
We tried getting in touch with Turntable, however they never responded, which caused us to go to Listeningroom.net, who worked with us.
We like the idea of the characters, even though they might be Myspace-y kind of. It allows the listeners to have more of a virtual experience of being in a room with the band. That’s why we originally wanted to use Turntable.
We think that this is the new way that bands can have listening parties for their fan, if Turntable starts to work with the artists.
