I recently came across a article on Momentus Media that looked at how often you should be posting to your Faceebook page. Their findings suggested you should not be afraid to post 12 times a day to your page. Actually saying, “Page admins trying to reach a larger percentage of their audience should post as much as they can to increase interaction.” That number was alarmingly high to me. I actually don’t agree. I think that is far too much for a page. Facebook users are more likely to start clicking Unlike if they start getting flooded with posts.
At a 2010 SF Musictech conference Meredith Chin of Facebook actually commented that the social media “sweet spot” is 3-4 status updates per day on Facebook; 8-10 tweets per day on Twitter, and 3-4 blog posts/week (although this depends on the artist).
My question to you, do agree with 12 posts per day on Facebook pages? How many posts do you make per day?
Read the entire article and look at their data: FB Page Admins: 12 posts/day shows high interaction : Momentus Media.

I’m with you, MB. Facebookers can handle 3-4 max. Even then that’s at the high end. If I post 4 in a day, I see the numbers fall. Only by 1 or 2, but for me that’s too many.
This is very confusing. I’ve read in other places that the suggested amount is once every other day. It’s definitely something that needs to be tested against the fans/followers/likers.
You can post more than every other day, daily for sure. But I will still stick with 3-4 posts max per day. And, it all depends on the content you are posting.
Yep, I agree with Kristen and you. Coming from the side of the receiver, if I’m getting spammed with more than about 3 posts a day, I’ll Unlike. I suspect the people that suggest these kind of things also promote “10,000 Instant twitter followers”
The max for me is 10 posts per day using the 4:4:3 ratio. 4 updates on breaking/current news (because everybody is talking about it) and/or educational share that appeal to a wide audience:4 fun updates i.e. photos, videos and quotes (to increase info likability and everybody like to read short inspirational/motivational quotes) and 3 brand updates.
It’s not a must to post up to 10 updates per day but it’s important to follow the 4:4:3 ratio.
This way,
@ Silvia Silvia,
4+4+3=11, not 10. Just FYI 🙂
We respect our FB fans so we don’t post more than 4 posts a day, and even that is really a lot to me
Interesting question. I find I get far too many status updates in a day. 3 or 4 would be on the outside as a maximum from a page or profile. Even at that level it seems a little self-indulgent. Depends on the quality of the updates, I suppose.
On Twitter, I couldn’t care less, but again, it is the question of what value the tweets bring.
I shoot for a blog post per week, currently. But I’m just getting started.
I have a question for you. I note that this was posted almost a year and a half ago, yet I linked to it from Twitter just now.
So, how often can one re-post a blog post before parking it? It doesn’t matter to me right now, as I don’t have enough volume, but it would help me in the future.
Thanks, Michael. Cheers.
You have to know your audience… what they like posted, and how often. If you want to be safe 3-4 per day max until you get a better understanding.
If the content is green… meaning it is just as valuable today as it was a year ago, repost it. Also keep in mind that if you are constantly adding new fans, and I hope you are, something from a year ago will be new to someone who just started following you.
I get ALOT of traffic from reposting old content. Sometimes more a year later than when it was first posted.
Cool of you to get back to me so quickly. It’s good information, which is always a bonus. Lol.
Thanks. Cheers.
One more question. A lot of artists, like myself, have both a personal profile, and an artist page. I get a fair bit of crossover, but still have far more friends on my personal profile than on my artist page. When we talk about FB status updates, are we combining the two?
No, you can look at each channel on its own.
