A few years ago I wrote about John Mellencamp releasing variations of the same album through different retailers, how it felt like it had gone too far. I understand the business reason behind it, each retailer wants something exclusive in exchange for their promotion. In the end a band’s most supportive fans are left asking “why am I buying the same album five different times?”
Well, the concept of variations continues. This time it is not a album, but a band’s comic book. Yeah comic book variations are nothing new, and yeah KISS milking every dollar they can get from fans is nothing new. Announced by KISS…
NEW KISS COMICS COVERS
Here’s a photo of the advance copies of the new KISS Comics Issue #1. Pictured are the 6 different covers that will be available for the #1 Issue. KISS #1 will officially be in stores on June 13.
In the photos:
Top row: two regular covers available at most retailers; and one limited cover available at select retailers
Bottom row: limited cover available at select retailers; the black cover is exclusive to one retailer only; last one on right is the KISSOnline exclusive.
Six different covers of the exact same content! One or two variations, ok…. six, come on! I am all in favor of doing things to generate more revenue, but I think you have to be careful about crossing the line and just doing things that ring as pure money grabs. And this just rings of that. Why stop at six covers, why not a dozen?
I have been a big fan of KISS comic books since their very first Marvel comic in the 1970s, but this is too much. Is this how you thank your most supportive fans, by asking them to buy the same content six times? You risk no sales if you push so hard for multiple sales.

YEAH! Dangerous for me, because if I have to buy every damn variation of the covers, there’s a good chance my wife will divorce me!
The kiss’s boys always disgusted me by the nonsense dealing to sold of thing with his faces.
is too much!!
The Gene Simmons reality of his family on tv???? WTF?? is is depressing..
