Pophouse invests in and develops brands within entertainment – specializing in music catalogue investments.

Episode 641: Johan Lagerlöf, Managing Partner – Investments at Pophouse Entertainment joins us to discuss what Pophouse’s vision is for the future of music properties. Most recently, Johan was Global Head of Catalogue at Spotify and in the music leads team. Prior to that, Johan worked at Warner Music, since they acquired X5 Music Group, a business that Johan co-founded in 2005 and led as CEO until its sale in 2016, successfully building one of the industry’s leading streaming and catalogue businesses. He presently serves on the boards for and co-founded Corite and Starmony and was previously a board member of the IFPI (International Federation Phonogram Industry). Johan has been working in the music industry for 30 years, starting as songwriter and music producer, winning ten Platinum awards.

Pophouse invests in and develops brands within entertainment – specializing in music catalogue investments. Acquired catalogues include Avicii, Swedish House Mafia, Cyndi Lauper and KISS. Unlike traditional entertainment IP investors, Pophouse adds value to our investments through artist-centric concept development by working closely with existing artists and estates. With a proven track record of successful ventures such as ABBA Voyage, Pophouse continues to redefine entertainment by pushing boundaries, embracing technology, and creating unforgettable experiences for fans worldwide.

As a teenager in the Pacific Northwest, Jay smuggled his Canon F-1 into rock concerts to get the perfect shot of the likes of Van Halen, Queen and Cheap Trick. After college, he toured as a musician gaining invaluable experience in what it takes to create and promote an album. He moved to San Francisco and finally to Los Angeles for Universal Music where he worked for 18 years, most recently as VP New Media and Online Marketing for Universal Music Enterprises.

Jay has been on the cutting edge of Digital Sales & Marketing with Universal, Starbucks Entertainment, Fox and Warner Music. It is this unique perspective as a musician, music executive, and fan that makes Jay‘s approach to Digital Strategy and Online Marketing so artist-friendly.”
