Author David Meerman Scott made a honest and realistic quote, “if you want 20,000 fans you must do 2000 different things that each generate 10 fans.” This was my favorite quote from 2010 and I am going to take this on as a challenge for 2011 for an ambitious project to give you 2000 different things you can do to generate 20,000 fans.
Some of these items will apply better for larger acts, some items will work for any act. Some may work for you, some may not… not yet. Some these can be done with little effort, some will take some web development, some might even require some significant development. Some of these have successfully worked for me over the years. The point is to create a list of items that would cover a wide range of acts and abilities.
The end result of all this will hopefully be more Facebook likes, Twitter followers, email list subscriptions, more sales and more traffic to your website… more fans!

31. Question of Da Day
This idea is completely inspired by my client Lisa Sniderman and her band Aoede. Over the last six months Lisa has gone from 0 to 60 with her fan engagement. Every day Lisa has her Aoede QODD (Question-o-d-Day). She will post a question on her Facebook page for her fans to answer. Example of a recent question: Who is the only female credited with vocals on Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’? You might wonder why not also post the question on her website and Twitter? She has something different and unique for her website and her Twitter account. Fans want to talk with you, you just have to ask the questions.
Agree!! Thanks for posting all these amazing Tips Michael! Aoede
Thanks kindly Michael! I appreciate you including this tip-I find people do like to interact with me and with each other! The most fun for me is when a friend responds to someone else’s comment on a question-that way they get to talk to each other as well! I like to keep my Twitter posts separate from Facebook-as you say giving different experiences! On Twitter I tend to focus more on wordplay, cool stuff, useless facts and making new connections.
