I wanted to share this article by Lorri Ratzlaff from Lorri’s Bizness Advantage. Lorri used a couple of my quotes from my Klout Star interview to discuss what is social media. Thank you Lorri!
As someone involved in Social Media daily I hear all kinds of myths and crazy stories … especially from people and businesses who are just down right scared to dive into Social Media!! Truth is, they’re probably already involved in same way and may not even know it! What’s scary about that is that having a poorly managed Social Media presence can be even more damaging than having no presence at all.
I came across a description of Social Media this week that just NAILS it, as far as I’m concerned!
Social media is simply talking and listening to your fans or customers. More than anything they want to know they are being heard. Social media has always existed, but today sites such as Facebook and Twitter make it much easier to accomplish and manage.
These are words by Michael Brandvold, freelance music industry consultant based in Northern California. Michael has managed the online efforts for KISS, Greg Kihn, Motley Crüe, Rod Stewart, Madonna, Ozzy Osbourne, Madonna and Britney Spears to name only a few. As far as I’m concerned, he’s GOT IT! Obviously his big name clients think so too!!
He goes on to talk about content strategy …
I always put myself in the shoes of the user, the fan, the customer. Remembering what it is they are looking for, what they want to read about, the simple problems they want solved. And most importantly, what would it take for me to pull out my credit card and buy something or give someone my email address. If something is too complicated for me to deal with, it will surely be above the heads of the average user. I may have worked with KISS, but the KISS principle is important… Keep It Simple Stupid. I like to deliver content that is easy to digest. Content that applies directly to a real problem or concern. Content that is easy to act upon. Don’t speak above the customer, speak to them.
