The Outlaws It's About Pride SpotifyThe Outlaws are a southern rock band that has been around since 1967. They have a couple hits under their belt, “There Goes Another Love Song,” “Ghost Riders in the Sky” and “Green Grass and High Tides.” I have been a fan of southern rock since I bought the first album by Molly Hatchet. I love the sound of a triple attack guitar jam. The Outlaws were never one of my favorites, beyond the three hits songs… I have never seen them in concert or bought a album.

A few weeks ago I heard they were releasing a new album. Just for kicks I searched on Spotify and found it, “It’s About Pride.” I hit the play button and wow! I loved what I was hearing. Classic melodic southern rock with great guitars and harmonies. I was sold. How did this lead me to spending some money?

Well I still like to own music that I love, so when the album came out last week I bought a copy, $10. Then I saw they were playing live 10 minutes away at the Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley so I bought a ticket, $48. And, after being blown away at the show I wanted to show the band some more love & support so I bought a concert t-shirt, $25.

All in I spent $83 on The Outlaws because I was able to find their latest album on Spotify. Are you only worried about the pennies you think Spotify will pay you for a stream? Think about the bigger picture, how introducing your music to a new fan can lead to a new connection and other sources of revenue much greater than a few pennies.

Oh and lets not forget about the value gained by everything I have been saying online and to my friends… how much is that worth?
