I posted a video that talked about how today you need to have tech skills to succeed. The video didn’t go into much detail on what specific tech skills you should have, so I thought I would list them for you. By all means I am not saying you need to be a master at these skills, you need to be a master at your music. But, having some basic understanding of these skills will go a long way in helping you further your career.
What is cPanel?
I bet your first question is, what is cPanel? Well many hosting companies provide you a webpage/web tool that allows you to administer and control your web server. cPanel is the name of one of the more popular server admin web tools. Think of cPanel as a dashboard control panel for your web server. You should have been provided the URL and login to your cpanel when you first signed up. Know the URL, the username and the password to access your web server cPanel dashboard. Don’t loose this URL and login info! Even if you don’t use cPanel I am sure at some point someone helping you will need to access it, and you will need to give them this info.
cPanel allows you to do things such as:
* Create email accounts
* Forward email accounts
* Forward urls
* Forward domains
* Create subdomains – such as http://subdomain.yourdomain.com
* Setup new domains for hosting
* Monitor your servers health – Processes, CPU usage, etc.
* View webstats
* Create ftp accounts
* Upload files to your server
This only scratches the surface of what you can do, but these are some of the more common things you would manage in cPanel.
